Say YES, to go on a community service exchange to Mozambique
The 2011 Southern Africa Youth Exchange Programme to be Launched in Malawi
The Southern Africa Trust in collaboration with AFS Interculture (South Africa) will open this year's southern Africa youth exchange (sayXchange) programme for applications at a launch event at the Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe, Malawi, starting at 12h00. The Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi and Trustee of the Southern Africa Trust, Perks Ligoya, will give a key note address.
For the first time, sayXchange will this year include participants from Malawi in addition to Mozambique and South Africa. Young people between the ages of 18 and 25 years old are eligible to apply to participate in the programme. There will be 20 participants in total for the 2011 programme. Malawian and Mozambican participants will be selected to volunteer for five months in community service projects within the Gauteng region of South Africa, and South African participants will go to Malawi and Mozambique for similar volunteering. The participants will be housed with families in the communities where they are placed.
By participating, they will have the opportunity to widen their horizons, experience other cultures and experience living in another southern African country. They will also volunteer to promote responsible citizenship amongst youth.
