Orientations set to Inspire Youth involvement in Civic Matters
On the 25th of February 2012, SayXchange, the youth programme designed to engender a clearer understanding of different cultures and the social issues of countries within the southern Africa region, will be hosting Post Return Orientations in South Africa, Malawi and Mozambique.
Congratulations Juzaida!
A 2010 SayXchange returnee, Juzaida Swain, has been selected to be part of the 2012 Activate! Leadership and Public Innovation Programme. Juzaida was recommended for the programme by the Southern Africa Trust.
SayXchange Participants' Selections for 2011 Underway
Selections for participants in this year's sayXchange programme took place on the 18th of June 2011 in Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa, and in Maputo, Mozambique. For Malawi, the selections took place in Lilongwe on 24 June 2011.
SayXchange Officially Launched in Malawi
The Southern Africa youth exchange programme sayXchange that was established for the youth to develop an appreciation of other cultures, experiences and to foster a sense of regional identity, has officially been launched in Malawi. The event was hosted in partnership with AFS Interculture South Africa and the Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM).

The Southern Africa Trust in collaboration with AFS Interculture (South Africa) will open this year's southern Africa youth exchange (sayXchange) programme for applications at a launch event at the Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe, Malawi, starting at 12h00.
SayXchange Grooming Responsible Citizens amongst Youth
SayXchange post-return orientations were held for South African and Mozambican participants in Johannesburg and Maputo on the 19th and 26th of February 2011 respectively. They were an opportunity for returnees to reflect and share on their experiences whilst on the exchange, as well as challenges they may be facing in re-adjusting and settling in their communities of origin.
In the discussions, it was well emphasised that participants grasped a deeper understanding of the common problems and issues confronting people in other southern African countries.
A cultural exchange
Eight South Africans and 10 Mozambicans, aged between 18 to 25, gathered in Maputo in mid-December to give feedback on a pilot exchange programme of volunteers between the two countries.
Graça Machel urges youth to do things differently and change the world
The Southern Africa Trust's Ambassador for Change and renowned development activist, Mrs Graça Machel, visited participants in the southern Africa youth exchange "sayXchange" in South Africa and Mozambique on 3 and 4 December 2010 respectively.
SayXchange candidates geared for exchange
A four-day gateway orientation was held in Benoni, South Africa for sayXchange participants from Mozambique and South Africa. The orientation was to equip participants with knowledge required to make the most of the exchange, which started on the 1st of August.
sayXchange Pre-Departure Orientation, Mozambique
From the 21st to the 23rd of May 2010, sayXchange candidates from Mozambique underwent a Pre-Departure orientation in Maputo. Just like the orientation which took place in Johannesburg South Africa, this workshop was an opportunity to impart participants with knowledge to prepare them for the exchange which will take place from July this year.

From the 7th to the 9th of May 2010, sayXchange candidates from South Africa underwent a Pre-Departure orientation in Johannesburg, South Africa. The main objective of the orientation was to impart participants with knowledge to prepare them for the exchange which will take place from July 2010.
In the various sessions during the orientation, they were informed about Mozambique, its culture and society.
Collaborative work to promote regional integration amongst youth in Southern Africa
On the 21st of April, 2010, the Southern Africa Trust and AFS Interculture South Africa met at the Trust offices to discuss and review the SayXchange launches and their objectives; to discuss the purpose/intent of the SayXchange initiative; and to determine how the initiative was progressing so far.
Launch of the Southern Africa Youth Exchange Programme in Maputo
An exciting new Southern Africa youth exchange programme, sayXchange, launches in Maputo, Mozambique, on Tuesday, 23 February 2010. The sayXchange launch will start at 18h00 at the Pestana Rovuma Hotel, Rua da Se 114, Maputo.
